Black Beauty has to suffer a lot of abuse in his long life, including witnessing the death of a great friend. It is a tough movie for sensitive kids (and adults) to watch. However, if you loved the book, I don't think you will be disappointed in the movie. Black beauty is the only book written by Anna Sewell. I bought this book may be 17+ years ago, when I used to read illustrated and abridged versions of literature. Later on I deduced that would leak out the story's essence and turn it into complete fragility. This Black Beauty, unlike earlier versions of the book, wisely follows Sewell's lead and concentrates instead on this generous, trusting horse and the consequences of its encounters with humanity. What I object to is the soppiness of "Black Beauty," in which the horse-narrator comes across like a spokesanimal for Greenpeace.
